A procedure has been put in place for parishes that want to request the services of a Lay Reader. This efficient procedure allows a reasonable spread of the workload between Lay Readers. Lay Readers are also sent to parishes according to their ability to travel and their other duties on a given day.

Service in the Parish

Lay Readers are first and foremost at the service of their Parish. In-Parish ministry is done in agreement and coordination with the Parish priest.

Travel Expenses

Parishes are expected to defray travel expenses for visiting Lay Readers. As of January 2023, the diocesan rate for travel expenses is $0.68 /km. Claim forms for travel expenses may be found below in Microsoft Excel format or in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
